Pellaud Swiss Champion of the mountain and Rumac Champion of Croatia

The international calendar for Sidermec Androni Giocattoli is moving forward.

In fact, Simon Pellaud’s victory in the Swiss Mountain Championship has arrived. The 27-year-old Swiss rider of the Italian champions finished in second place – making his national jersey of the specialty – the race of Martigny behind the Danish Velo Club Mendrisio Hellemose Asbjorn.

The two raced in the lead from the beginning, closing, after 38 kilometers, with 1’06” on the most immediate pursuers and also establishing the record of the climb.

«I’m not a real climber, but I was very motivated to do well. I’m very pleased». A week ago Pellaud had already made it clear that he was well on track with training and condition at the Grono-Rossa, another race of the Swiss calendar.

Josip Rumac is also the first post-lockdown successes for the Italian champion team, which in recent months had well defended itself with virtual races and in recent days has already celebrated on the road with the Swiss Pellaud in races of the Swiss calendar.

The Croatian Rumac has thought to put the seal in the first races of the resumption of the activity inserted in the international calendar UCI. And he did it by winning the national time trial championship and the line championship. The 25-year-old from Rijeka will continue to wear the jersey of national champion of Croatia: Saturday and yesterday, in fact, he repeated the successes of 2019.

In the time trial (Sibenik-Sibenik of 28.2 kilometers) Rumac preceded with a wide margin Popovic and Bebic; in the one in line (Zadar-Zadar of 127.6 kilometers), which ended in the late afternoon of yesterday, preceded the sprint Potocki (Ljubljana) and Barac (Meridiana). Rumac, followed by sports director Leonardo Canciani, brought to Androni Giocattoli Sidermec respectively the 12th and 13th victory of the season, resuming the thread interrupted at the end of February with the high notes of the Tour du Rwanda.

Androni Giocattoli team manager Sidermec Gianni Savio was satisfied: “A really exciting weekend for our team, with the double success of Josip Rumac in the Croatian championship in time trial and on the road. Meanwhile, Androni Giocattoli Sidermec has chosen not to take part in the Sibiu Tour scheduled in Romania from 23 to 26 July due to the worsening of the situation related to Coronavirus in the Balkan country in recent days. The decision, which comes even after the directions of Dr Maurizio Vicini (the team doctor), goes to total protection of the health of the riders and team staff who will redefine for this 2020 in the White Roads next August 1.
