19 June, 2015 – Area Zero-D’Amico-Bottecchia stood out right away as a major player on the roads of the Tour de Slovenie. The 2nd stage, from Skofja Loka to Kocevje for 182 km, which resulted in an all-Italian podium with our own Antonio Parrinello taking a great second place in the bunch sprint won by Paolo De Negri (Nippo-Vini Fantini). Third place went to Simone Ponzi (SouthEast).

It was a very challenging day. The route turned out to be harder than expected and furthermore the weather conditions with lots of rain made the stage even more difficult,” explains sport director Massimo Codol. “In spite of everything we managed to put in a good performance. We had planned to ride the race around Parrinello, who proved he was in excellent shape in France last week as well. It’s too bad because once again we came so close to success. But this is a second place that means a lot to our team, especially considering the level of our competition in the race. We’ve proven that we’re up to par and we will also take on the next stages from the front, trying to do something important.”

There were three mountain grand prix; the first and the last turned out to be grueling. The last one was extremely selective. I thank my team mate Paolo Ciavatta for having helped me a lot in the final; he and I stayed with the best group of about 40 riders which took shape after the climb. In the sprint I tried playing my hand as best I could. I feel very good and I am happy for this placement, but I’m hoping to attain a victory soon. I hope so for me but especially for our team. We deserve it for the commitment and the great job we’ve all been doing since the beginning of the year,” explains Antonio Parrinello after his third second place of the season.
